Arsenal were drawn against Bayern Munich
in the Champions League knockout stages
for the third time in four years this morning
and, as ever, the banter on social media was
quick to follow.
The Gunners are right to feel slightly hard
done by getting Carlo Ancelotti’s men in the
last-16, given they topped their group ahead
of Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Having met each other four times in five
years, the two teams are familiar with one
another and Arsenal’s German contingent
means there’s even stronger links between
the sides.
Arsenal’s star man, Mesut Ozil, has had
mixed fortunes against Bayern in the past –
missing a penalty in the sides clash in 2014
but scoring the winner in their 2-0 group
stage clash in 2015.
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer
was quick to remind Ozil of his penalty save
in the first encounter but the Germany
captain saw his tweet backfire spectacularly
when Ozil hit back with a reminder of his
winner at the Emirates.
