Prize Money For The English Premier League For The 2016/2017 Season !

Questions are always asked as to how much is the prize
money for the winner of the English Premier League title.
The truth is there's no specific amount given to the club
that wins the title. All clubs in the Premier League are paid
at the end of the season and there are some amounts these
teams also shares equally.
I will try as much as I can to break this down for those who
cares to know how the clubs are being paid. Although, I
have done this before, but I'll do it now again. So, let's go!
.
SkySports and BT Sports are the two Sports stations that
shares the broadcasting rights of Premier League in the
United Kingdom for the next three years, beginning from this
just concluded 2016/2017 season. Premier League signed a
new deal with both sides and it was worth a staggering
£5.136 billion. Aside this, the Premier League also signed
massive oversees TV deals around the world which takes
the total TV income to more than £8.5 billion for next three
season. With these new TV deals, Premier League clubs
will have massive financial downfall from 2016-17 season
where even the club that last on the table will earn around
100 million a year.
.
The total combined TV rights deal of £8.5 billion earlier
mentioned was divided across 3 seasons, which is the
duration of the deal.
.
For the 2016/2017 season, £2.8 billion was what was
distributed among the 20 Premier League clubs and there's
a distribution model used for this.
Remember I wrote earlier that the combined deal signed by
Premier League was for the United Kingdom (domestic), and
oversea.
.
Below is how the Domestic TV money and Oversea TV for
the 2016/2017 was shared.
.
(A.) Domestic TV Money (£1.8 billion)
The domestic portion of the money was divided among 20
the clubs according to following model.
1.) 50% of the money was divided and shared equally. And
that's around £38 million for each for all 20 clubs. All the
clubs on the table will be paid this amount equally. No big
club here. No cheating.
...
2.) 25% of the money was shared on Merit based. This was
divided according to final league position on the table for
this season. According to the position of every club, they
would collect £2 million higher than themselves. For
example, Sunderland who came last on the table will be
paid £2 million. The club that came 19th will be paid £4
million, 18th will be paid £6 million, 17th £8 million, 16th
£10 million, 15th £12 million... It will rising by £2 million
according to their position until it gets to Chelsea who
came 1st and would be paid £40 million as the Champions.
...
3.) 25% was shared as facility fee: This amount will be paid
to all clubs depending on how many times teams match
was shown live. That's around £1 million for every live
game or guaranteed £10m if a team only had 10 or less live
matches. For example, Manchester United match has the
highest number of matches shown this season, which was
27 matches and they'll be paid £27 million for this. Next is
Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal who all had 25 of their live
matches shown and they'll be paid £25 million each for this.
Shey you get now?
.
That was all for the Domestic TV money for this season.
Now to the Overseas TV money. Let me let you know that
this is where the money you paid to watch matches on
DSTV goes to. Because DSTV is part of the overseas deal.
For instance, if you pay to watch a game, owner of viewing
center will pay DSTV subscription and it is the subscription
DSTV uses to pay their own part of the deal to Premier
League organisers. Shey you see as e dey go now?
Now to the overseas deal tory....
...
(B.) Oversees TV Money - Around £1 billion.
Oversees TV money is divided equally between all 20 clubs
on the table and for this just concluded 2016-17 season all
premier league clubs will get around £47 million each from
this portion. Gbam!
...
Now if you add this Overseas TV money of £47 million paid
equally to each club to the Domestic TV money of £38
million paid equally to each club, it means all the clubs on
the table will get total equal amount of £85 each. No
cheating! No this club is bigger than that! No senior! No
ojoro!
.
Now, the addition of all these amounts will form the amount
paid to each clubs in the Premier League this season. At the
end, it doesn't really mean that a club that finished above
another club will be paid more than that club.
.
Below is the Total Prize Money:
1. Chelsea - £150 million
2. Tottenham - £145 million
3. Liverpool - £146 million
4. Man City - £142 million
5. Arsenal - £142 million
6. Man United - £142 million
7. Everton - £130 million
8. West Brom - £121 million
9. Bournemouth - £119 million
10. Southampton - £121 million
11. Leicester City - £122 million
12. West Ham - £118 million
13. Crystal Palace - £112 million
14. Stoke City - £111 million
15. Burnley - £107 million
16. Watford - £107 million
17. Swansea - £103 million
18. Hull City - £101 million
19. Middlesbrough - £99 million
20. Sunderland - £98 million
.
That is it!
I hope you understand now how much is the Prize Money
for the Premier League teams with the explanations above.
.
Permit me to also add that these clubs makes gargantuan
amount of money every season from ticket sales,
merchandise, sponsorships and player transfers.
