Messi knows when to sign new Barca
Leo Messi believes now is not the right time to focus on his contract terms and has decided to wait to see what the club does in the remainder of the transfer window.
Is the delay in signing a new deal down to the possibility of Manchester City paying the 300 million euros stated on his release clause? Nothing further from the truth, the Argentine merely wants to see how the squad shapes up for the season.
Both Messi and the club know that, at the moment, there are more important things than his new contract at the Camp Nou, such as bolstering the ranks with quality signings to prepare a competitive squad that was seriously weakened by Neymar's exit.
The Catalan club are targeting two world-class signings and after dealing with the long-awaited transfers, they will turn their attentions to the No 10's contract extension.
Bearing all this in mind, it seems unlikely that Messi's much-anticipated renewal will take place before the closing of the transfer window. That is, unless Barcelona make an conscious effort and close all their signings this week, something that doesn't look promising...
