Count down to the Statutory Delegates election of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Akwa lbom state:
The rumour making the rounds in the state has it that the people's popular choice and highly endorsed governorship aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Obong Bassey Albert Akpan, (OBA) will emerge the party’s candidate for the 2023 poll.
OBA is expected to poll over eighty-five percent (85%) of votes to defeat his rivals, even as all the Party delegates expected to participate in the primary have pledged their unflinching loyalty and support to the leading aspirant, OBA. However, there are obvious reasons!
"We are optimistic about OBA's landslide victory, and we are expecting to hear this announcement; "having scored the highest number of votes casted in this primary, you Bassey Albert Akpan is hereby declared the winner in accordance with the guidelines of our party”, a staunch PDP stalwart and a delegate from Nsit Ubium local government area boasted.
While congratulating their Principal in advance, Mr. Okpon, another statutory delegate from Ika said, "the leadership of our party in the state, whom I can defend its integrity will provide a level playing ground for all aspirants, and I believe there will be no breach of security at the party's primary." He however thanked Akwa lbom delegates for queuing behind OBA's aspiration.
In his remarks during one of his consultation visits, while fielding questions from newsmen, the Enin Ibiono Ibom, Senator ( Obong)Bassey Albert Akpan said, “Let me thank my people, the good people of Akwa Ibom state for discovering me."
"The level of my acceptance authenticates a new dawn of prosperity and job opportunities for my people, from the downtrodden to the man at the higher stratum. I am hopeful they might have seen something in me or read about my antecedents."
"I thank every Akwa Ibom son and daughter, both at home and the Diaspora for willingly giving me this massive endorsement to serve them as their legitimately elected Governor from May 29, 2023."
On the forthcoming PDP governorship primaries, OBA said, with the massive support Akwa lbom people have given to him, "I will win the primaries by 85% votes". He said, "I am willing to accept to be the flagbearer of our great party in the forthcoming governorship primaries.”
He described the aspirants he will defeat as 'friends' and promised to carry every one along in his government. Continuing, OBA said, “we are committed to deliver our people from suffering and hunger." According to him, "can all of you attest to this much hunger in the state?" OBA questioned.
Meanwhile, there are some flying rumours that some aspirants have concluded plans to withdraw from the primary due to the alleged involvement in occult, saying the idea of belonging to occult runs against the belief of Akwa lbom people.
The source added that even if they will make it to the primaries, Akwa lbom people will never take a decision, where they will be bitten by their conscience, at least for the sake of posterity.
