2023 PRESIDENCY: GOV UDOM EMMANUEL WAS BORN FOR THE TIME

2023 PRESIDENCY: GOV  UDOM  EMMANUEL WAS BORN FOR THE TIME

As the political scene prepares  for another transition come 2023, the gladiators are lining up for the battle of who occupies the different political offices available at the states and the national level.

Very critical to the advancement of the nation is who occupies the exalted office of the president of the federal republic of Nigeria. For 6 years and 11 months the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has lost power at the centre to the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by President Mohammadu Buhari.

Many have adjudged the current administration to have fallen short of the high expectations of Nigerians given the state of the economy. The Naira has lost so much value within the time of this administration.

The economic recessions suffered and that occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic further threw the nation into hardship. As the president struggled to stabilize the nation's economy, so were many governors also struggling to stabilize their state. Some states owed workers salaries and could hardly deliver the good of democratic rule.

Inspite of this situation in the country, one state governor remarkably stood out. Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel the governor of Akwa Ibom State came on board in May 2015 during an economic recession and brought his financial management skills to bare in governance. Having cut his teeth with many years of experience in the financial sector.

With the wealth of experience, this trained financial expert and Chartered Accountant transformed the fortune of Akwa Ibom State and almost created a dual nationality where the state operated as though it was drawing from a different economy other than the federal government.

Under the harsh economy reality, Akwa Ibom State launched an airline, Ibom Air and began commercial operations even when the federal government of Nigeria has struggled over decades to revive her national carrier, Nigerian Airways. Mr Udom Emmanuel ingeniously made Akwa Ibom State in the history of nation the first state to own an airline.

Anchoring one of his visions for Akwa Ibom State on industrialization, Mr Udom Emmanuel set out to encourage the establishment of industries in the state to erase the civil service state status of Akwa Ibom. Today Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Company supplies her product across the federation cutting the high importation of syringe into the country.

The establishment of the metering company in Akwa Ibom State was another proactive move by the government of Mr Udom Emmanuel to also solve the problem that arose from many homes depending on estimated billing for power consumption.

Road infrastructural development took a new face under the Udom Emmanuel led administration in Akwa Ibom State. With over 1500 kilometers of roads done so far an important expect of it is the economic viable nature of the roads and how they are deliberately interconnected to open up the state.

With these and many more that has been achieved at the level of the state, we can only imagine what can be achieved by an Udom Emmanuel led administration at the centre.

Never in the history of the nation have we been in critical economic time as this, where the nation is in dire need of  rescue. Mr Udom Emmanuel with his pedigree and achievements in Akwa Ibom State fits the bill for who should become our nation's next president.

If Udom Emmanuel could create a state carrier in Ibom Air, is it a national carrier he can not create? It will not take an Udom Emmanuel more than two years to deliver an effective national carrier for Nigeria that will be the pride of the airways across the globe.

Udom Emmanuel was born for a time such as this because amongst other aspirants, he is the only one with the requisite experience, vigour, courage, ingenuity and passion to drive our country to its place of pride. Like Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of United Arab Emirates, Nigeria deserves an Udom Emmanuel to led her to her own prosperity.
