The meeting which had in attendance HE the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Head of the Civil Service, Honourable Commissioners and Special Adviser, commenced at 10AM with an opening prayer offered by Rt.Hon. Orman Esin (HC-Culture and Tourism).
Just before commencing the meeting, the Governor inaugurated the State Steering Committee of the Nigeria For Women Project, chaired by HE the Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, MFR, with the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Margaret Anietie Edem as Secretary. The Commissioners of Women Affairs, Finance, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rural development and Cooperatives, Agriculture, Economic Development are to serve as members. Also serving as Members are the Chairmen of Onna, Oruk Anam and Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Areas. Representing the Private sector, NGO and CSO are Obonganwan Mary Umanaette Udo, Mrs Abigail Edohoeket and Mrs Eme Atakpo respectively. The secretariat is manned by the State Project Coordinator, Ofonime Iniobong Etuknwa Esq.
The Nigeria for Women Project is a five year operation of the Federal Government with the support of the World bank aimed at ensuring gender equality and improving the economic fortunes of women.
BUSINESS OF THE DAY
1. EXCO approved the proposal by the HC-Education for the State Government Tertiary Scholarship Scheme. The Scheme is to aid 500 intelligent but indigent undergraduates, of Akwa Ibom Origin, studying in Public Tertiary Institutions in the country. The Scholarship Award is in the sum of N200,000 per session. The Ministry of Education and State Scholarships Board are to publish the eligibility criteria for candidates. EXCO mandated the HC-Education to ensure that the processes for the selection of the beneficiaries are transparent. This scholarship is provided to link the tertiary education sector to the already existing Free and Compulsory Education Policy of government currently running at the Primary and Secondary levels.
2. The contract for the construction of Cottage Hospital, Ukanafun was re-awarded and the contractor charged to execute the project within a period of 130 days.
3. The Construction of 5.0 KM Elei-Osu -Offi group of villlages with 60M Span bridge in Okobo and Urue Offong/Oruko LGAs was approved.
4. The Construction of Nkari-Mbiabong-Ibuno Okpro-Mbente-Obbrong- Anwafia road in INI LGA was approved.
5. All ministries presented their status update and a brief on future projects.
Before adjournment, EXCO received in audience, the new Brigade Commander of 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Abubakar Wase, who came to pay a courtesy call on the Governor, following his resumption of duties at the Brigade headquarters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The Meeting was adjourned at 3:32pm and the closing prayer worded by HC-Environment and Solid Minerals, Sir Charles Udoh.
